Social unrest in Hong Kong continued on Christmas Day as the protesters clashed with the police outside Langham Place and inside New Town Plaza shopping malls, local media reported on Wednesday. The police used tear gas and pepper spray to repress the riots in the districts of Mong Kok and Sha Tin.

On Christmas Eve, the police fired tear gas at the anti-government protesters in Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok shopping areas while the rioters set the metro station on fire using petrol bombs. Commissioner of Police Chris Tang Ping-keung urged protesters to restrain from violence and destruction, calling on them to “let Hong Kong has peaceful Chrismas.”
