Germany restricts travel from UK
Germany restricted travel from the United Kingdom in order to potentially stop the spread of the newly discovered Omicron coronavirus variant.
The federal government declared the country as a coronavirus variant area due to the rapid spread of the new variant. The new measures mean that only German citizens and those with residence will be able to travel from the UK to Germany, with a mandatory two-week quarantine period upon arrival, which cannot be shortened through negative tests and applies to those that are fully vaccinated and recovered as well.
The restrictions take effect on midnight Monday, December 20, and will last until January 3. However, the country also noted that it may extend the measures if the situation with the virus warrants it.
