Canada to suspend parliament due to coronavirus
Canada’s parliament is going to be suspended for at least five weeks after all the federal political parties have agreed that this would be the necessary choice amid an increase in COVID-19 cases in that North-American country.
It was agreed that the parliament will be on a shut down until April 20, but the government assured it will continue to provide public funds when and where needed. “My colleagues and I, in direct collaboration with our friends across the aisle, have come to an arrangement to suspend Parliament while ensuring the government continues to have the authority and capability to provide our country with necessary financial supports,” Mark Strahl, chief opposition whip stated on Friday.
Earlier on Thursday, it was announced that the wife of Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, tested positive for COVID-19, thus urging the prime minister to self-isolate himself.
