Dow jumps 270 pts at close with earnings in spotlight
Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States ended the session higher on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average surging over 270 points, as the investors waited for the batch of corporate earnings reports scheduled for release after the bell.
The major benchmarks hovered near the neutral line for the largest part of the trading bout, as the investors looked for directions, with some of the giants set to publish quarterly results this week, starting with Alphabet Inc.
The Dow Jones soared 0.78%, or 273 points, as the session ended, with Boeing surging 4.05%. The Nasdaq 100 closed 0.6% in the green as Netflix flew 7.02%. At the same time, the S&P 500 advanced by 0.68% with UPS as its best-performing unit, much like at the open. The shipping company skyrocketed 13.99% as the session finished. The euro strengthened 0.3% compared to the dollar at 3:59 pm ET, selling for 1.12686.
