IAG plans to challenge UK’s quarantine rules

International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (IAG) intends to take legal action against the British government’s legislation that requires a 14-day mandatory quarantine upon arrival for all air passengers who travel to the United Kingdom, the company’s CEO Willie Walsh (pictured) stated on Friday.

“We think it is irrational, we think it is disproportionate and we are giving consideration to a legal challenge to this legislation,” Walsh told SkyNews, warning it could ruin IAG-owned British Airways plans to fly again in July.

The UK’s flag carrier found itself in turmoil amid the coronavirus-caused fall in travel demand that forced the company to cut 12,000 jobs in late April in an attempt to weather the COVID-19 impact. Nevertheless, IAG’s head asserted last month that British Airways is capable of surviving the crisis without the government’s bailout.
