Over 1,200 drivers laid off amid Amazon’s contract cuts – report

Amazon.com Inc. has canceled its contracts with several delivery firms over the past few months, causing the companies to dismiss more than 1,200 drivers in total, CNBC reported on Thursday.

The e-commerce giant reportedly severed ties with seven companies that have participated in Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program, with a number of them having to close their facilities, in addition to workforce cuts. However, the report also noted that, since its start in 2018, the DSP program has expanded to include 1,300 firms that employ 85,000 workers in five countries.

In a statement to the media outlet, a spokesperson for Amazon has acknowledged the contract terminations, adding that the company will provide assistance to affected drivers to “find opportunities to deliver Amazon packages with other local Delivery Service Partners with little to no disruption to pay.”
