PayPal, eBay halt operations in Russia
Online payments system PayPal has halted providing its services in Russia due to Moscow’s military operations in Ukraine, according to the company’s statement released on Saturday. “Under the current circumstances, we are suspending PayPal in Russia,” CEO Dan Shulman confirmed.
Meanwhile, e-commerce giant eBay also announced it has stopped delivering orders to both Russia and Ukraine since Thursday in order “to protect buyers and sellers affected by disruptions in transportation,” adding that it “suspended the collection of sales fees for users in Ukraine to alleviate the pressure caused by disruption of cash flow.”
Reports suggest that the two fighting sides agreed to establish a temporary ceasefire today to open humanitarian corridors for civilians in Mariupol and Volnovakha.
