United States House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined the growing criticism by several global leaders who have condemned President Donald Trump’s announcement of a temporary stoppage in funding for the World Health Organization (WHO).
In a statement she released on Wednesday, Pelosi called the move “senseless, dangerous and illegal” adding that it “will be swiftly challenged” by the Democratic Party. She described the decision as “another case […] of the President’s ineffective response” to the coronavirus pandemic. “A weak person takes no responsibility” and “blames others,” Pelosi pointed out.
She suggested that “a coordinated international response with respect for science and data” is the only path to winning the battle against the disease.
