Vindman calls Trump Putin’s ‘useful idiot’
Former Director for European Affairs for the United States National Security Council Alexander Vindman (pictured) on Monday described President Donald Trump as a “useful idiot” of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
“He has aspirations to be the kind of leader that Putin is, and so he admires him. He likes authoritarian strongmen who act with impunity, without checks and balances. So he’ll try to please Putin,” he told The Atlantic. “In the army we call this ‘free chicken,’ something you don’t have to work for — it just comes to you. This is what the Russians have in Trump: free chicken.”
Vindman, who was one of the key witnesses in the impeachment of Trump, retired from the military after the president led a “campaign of bullying, intimidation, and retaliation” against him.
