Asia trades lower as Korean peninsula tensions rise

Equities on major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region were lower on Wednesday with investors focusing on disputes between South Korea and North Korea. Pyongyang is reportedly determined to carry on with “all kinds of military exercises” near its border with South Korea, while Seoul warned it will “strongly respond” to the neighboring country’s “provocative military actions.”

On the data front, Japan unveiled its trade deficit amounted to ¥833.4 billion in May dropping 13.7% annually to beat estimates.

The Nikkei 225 lost 0.74% at 4:30 am CET, while the Kospi and the Hang Seng fell 0.97% and 0.13% at the same time, respectively. The Shenzhen Composite went down by 0.16% and the Shanghai Composite slid 0.13% a minute earlier, while the S&P/ASX 200 in Australia was flat at 4:31 am CET.

The dollar decreased 0.07% against the yen to go for 107.2460 at 4:32 am CET.
