Dow falls 200 pts after Omicron reaches US
The Dow Jones Industrial Average index lost over 200 points on Wednesday after the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) discovered the first infection with the Omicron coronavirus variant in the country in California. Earlier in the day, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell noted that the “risk of persistently high inflation has clearly risen.”
The Dow Jones dropped 0.62% or 213 points, the Nasdaq 100 was 1.01% down and the S&P 500 declined 0.51% at 3:24 pm ET.
The euro decreased by 0.26% against the dollar to go for 1.13125 a minute later.
