Euro area industrial production down 17.1% in April

Seasonally adjusted industrial production in the euro area fell by 17.1% in April compared to the prior month, while dropping 17.3% in the whole European Union, the bloc’s statistical office Eurostat reported on Friday. On an annual basis, industrial production dropped 28.0% in Eurozone and 27.2% in the whole union.

Production of durable consumer goods fell by 28.9% and capital goods by 26.6% in the euro area, while in the EU the figures were down by 27.8% and 27.3% respectively. Production of intermediate goods decreased by 15.6%. Non-durable consumer goods slid 11.9% and energy by 4.8%. In the whole bloc, the intermediate goods were down 27.8%, non-durable consumer goods 27.3% and energy 5.0%.
