Ford cuts F-150 production over chip shortage

Ford Motor Company informed its employees on Wednesday that it will cut the production of its F-150 pickup truck and some other models as a result of the global chip shortage, CNBC reported.

“Our teams are making the most of our available semiconductor allocation, finding unique solutions to provide as many high-quality vehicles as possible to our dealers and customers,” John Savona, Ford’s vice president of manufacturing and labor affairs, said in an internal memo.

Ford’s plant in Kansas that makes the F-150 will extend its production halt until the end of next week and the Michigan plant that makes the truck will continue to run only one of three shifts. Meanwhile, the Kentucky Truck plant that makes Super Duty pickups, as well as Expedition and Navigator SUVs will cut a shift for the next two weeks.
