Trump: Rep. Lewis was ‘civil rights hero’
United States President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the family of late Representative John Lewis (pictured) on Saturday, calling Lewis a “civil rights hero.”
Trump took to Twitter and wrote: “Saddened to hear the news of civil rights hero John Lewis passing. Melania and I send our prayers to he and his family.”
Earlier today, the White House lowered its flag to half-mast, to commemorate Lewis’ death. Lewis, who has been serving as a congressman since 1987, was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer late last year.
