US to further investigate Boeing 777 engine issue

The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) unveiled it will launch an additional investigation into Boeing 777 aircraft following an incident on the United Airlines’ flight that caused an emergency landing at Denver International Airport.

“Based on the initial information, we concluded that the inspection interval should be stepped up for the hollow fan blades that are unique to this model of engine, used solely on Boeing 777 airplanes,” the FAA said in a statement.

On Saturday, the plane landed in Denver after a P&W4000 engine issue that was confined to the right engine, causing only minor damage to the airplane, according to the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). United Airlines temporarily removed its 24 Boeing 777 aircraft after the incident, while the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism ordered Japan Airlines and ANA Holdings Inc to make the same move.
