McConnell again rejects separate vote on $2,000 checks

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to accept a standalone vote on $2,000 stimulus checks on Thursday even after Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the Democrats would allow for votes limiting a liability shield for Big Tech and establishing a commission to review elections if the GOP compromised.

“Just give us a vote on the House-passed bill, and we can vote on whatever right-wing conspiracy theory you like,” Schumer said in the Senate, prompting McConnell’s response that the increased relief size would be a “socialism for the rich.”

Next to President Donald Trump, the majority of Senate Democrats and some Republican senators called for the increase from $600 to $2,000 of direct payments meant to support households overcome the coronavirus pandemic.
