Trump: No reason for Congress to decline rapid tests
United States President Donald Trump criticized Congress for declining his offer to provide parid coronavirus testing for lawmakers and claimed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will use the move as “an excuse not to show up at work.”
“No reason to turn it down, except politics. We have plenty of testing. Maybe you need a new Doctor over there. Crazy Nancy will use it as an excuse not to show up to work!” Trump tweeted.
The remarks came after Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said they “respectfully decline” the White House’s offer, stressing the test kits should be directed to front-line facilities instead. The Senate is set to reconvene on Monday, while the House was initially set to return to work the same day, but postponed the move on Capitol Hill’s physician’s advice.
