UK COVID figures much higher than reported – Javid
British Health Secretary Sajid Javid said on Sunday that the actual number of COVID-19 infections “will be significantly higher than case numbers suggest” due to the delay in test processing and the fact that not all infected people will take a test. He suggested the official figures could be only a fifth or a quarter of the real case totals as the Omicron variant spreads “very, very quickly.”
In a Sky News interview, Javid stated nine out of ten hospitalized patients with severe symptoms are unvaccinated. “They must really think about the damage they are doing to society. They take up hospital beds that could be used for someone with maybe a heart condition or someone who’s waiting for an elective surgery,” he said. The health secretary also refused to rule out new restrictive measures, although he did not reveal any details of the government’s plan to control the pandemic.
