UK faces emergency with Omicron – Johnson
United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated on Sunday that the country is facing a new emergency when it comes to battling the Omicron coronavirus variant.
Johnson noted that Omicron cases are rising exponentially, adding that there is a “tidal wave” of cases coming in the days ahead. Furthermore, he said that the government cannot say whether the variant is less severe and that there is a risk of overwhelming the health system from too many cases.
Earlier, the UK raised its coronavirus alertness level to the second-highest level, indicating that there is the variant is in general circulation, with the country’s health agency predicting Omicron will become the dominant variant by mid-December.
